The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 333 suspected political thugs arrested during last Saturday’s bye-elections for various electoral offences.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of security operations in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies.

According to him, the suspects were caught attempting to disrupt the polls while armed with cutlasses, pump-action rifles, locally made pistols, and other dangerous weapons.

They have now been charged with disorderly conduct, possession of offensive weapons, intimidation, and the snatching and destruction of election materials.

Bakori also revealed that items recovered from the suspects included arms, dangerous objects, and cash amounting to ₦4,048,000, suspected to have been used to fund their activities.

The police boss confirmed that the accused were arraigned before Magistrate Courts in Nomansland and Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, where their prosecution has already begun.

The arrests highlight the continuing challenge of electoral violence in Nigerian politics, as security agencies battle to ensure that elections are free, fair, and credible.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
