KANO MAN SENTENCED TO 8 MONTHS IN JAIL FOR IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER
Man Jailed 8 Months for Impersonating Police Officer in Kano
A 33-year-old man, identified as Nasiru Shitu, has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment for impersonating a police officer in Kano State.
The sentence was handed down by a Shari’a Court sitting in Fagge Local Government Area of the state after Shitu pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation.
According to the prosecution counsel, Barrister Zaharaddeen Mustapha, Shitu was arrested on Sunday, September 21, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., at Kofar Dawanau, where he was found dressed in a police uniform and posing as a law enforcement officer.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been masquerading as a police officer to extort unsuspecting members of the public.
Delivering judgment, Khadi Nasiru Ahmad Muhammad convicted Shitu and sentenced him to eight months in prison, with an option of a ₦70,000 fine.
The court’s decision serves as a stern warning to individuals engaging in impersonation and fraudulent activities in the name of law enforcement.
Residents of Kano have since applauded the swift judgment, urging the police and the judiciary to remain vigilant in curbing criminal impersonation in the state.
