Federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has officially defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) back to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin announced his return to the ruling party on Monday via a post on his Facebook page, explaining that his decision followed a unanimous resolution by his supporters to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in favour of the APC.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” he wrote.

According to him, the gathering resolved not only to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya movement but also to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Jibrin added that nearly 2,000 scholars from his constituency offered special prayers for President Tinubu, seeking peace, development, and progress for Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

The lawmaker’s defection comes just two months after he resigned from the NNPP, following his expulsion from the party over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues.

At the time, Jibrin had described his expulsion as “shocking and unjustified,” accusing the NNPP of violating due process and fair hearing by not giving him a chance to defend himself.

Despite the controversy, he stated that he had accepted the party’s decision in good faith and would not challenge it in court.

With his official return to the APC, Jibrin is expected to play a key role in Kano’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, strengthening the ruling party’s presence in the state.
