The Kano State Government has recruited 2,037 health workers to address manpower shortages and improve healthcare delivery across public health facilities.

Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed this on Wednesday while presenting appointment letters to the newly recruited personnel. He said the recruitment was necessary because many healthcare professionals had left the state in search of better opportunities.

The new workers include 250 medical doctors, 40 pharmacists, 250 nurses, 250 midwives, 150 Community Health Officers, 50 Junior Community Health Extension Workers and 50 medical laboratory scientists, among other professionals.

Yusuf urged the new employees to approach their duties with professionalism, discipline and compassion while respecting the rights and dignity of patients regardless of their background.

He also warned against demanding money from patients before providing medical consultation or emergency care in public facilities.

The governor said no patient should be denied timely medical attention because of an inability to pay before receiving care.

He described the appointments as a responsibility to serve Kano residents and contribute to improving the quality of healthcare across the state.

Yusuf added that the state government would continue to recruit health personnel as needed and take other measures to strengthen the sector and address identified workforce gaps.
