KANO GOVERNOR YUSUF DEMANDS REMOVAL OF POLICE COMMISSIONER, ACCUSES HIM OF UNDERMINING AUTHORITY
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for the immediate removal of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of disobeying lawful directives and undermining his authority as the state’s Chief Security Officer.
Governor Yusuf made the demand on Tuesday during an event marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary at Kofar Mata Stadium, Kano metropolis.
Expressing his displeasure, the governor alleged that police officers under CP Bakori’s command deliberately withdrew from providing security at the ceremony, despite receiving clear instructions from him.
“The Commissioner of Police has embarrassed us by his conduct,” Yusuf said. “His action is unprofessional, unethical, and contrary to what is expected of a security chief on such a historic day for the people of Kano and indeed for Nigeria as a whole.”
The governor stressed that the commissioner’s continued stay in the state was untenable, warning that it posed a threat to effective security coordination.
“On behalf of myself as Chief Security Officer, and on behalf of the good people of Kano State, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori today,” Yusuf declared.
The call comes amid rising political and security tensions in Kano, where the relationship between the state government and security agencies has at times appeared strained.
