Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for the continuation of presidential rotation between northern and southern Nigeria, saying northern presidential aspirants should wait until 2031 before seeking the presidency.

Yusuf made the statement on Sunday at the Kano Government House while receiving 50 vehicles donated by Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor said allowing each region to produce a president for two consecutive terms would give administrations enough time to implement major policies and development programmes.

He urged political stakeholders in the North to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, arguing that this would allow the South to complete what he described as its two-term cycle before power returns to the North in 2031.

Yusuf said rotational presidency could promote fairness, equity, national cohesion and a sense of belonging among Nigerians.

He also urged political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, focusing on policies and programmes rather than personal attacks or inflammatory rhetoric.

The governor’s comments come amid increasing political activity and discussions among various parties and aspirants ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
