Popular Nigerian dancer Kafayat Shafau, better known as Kaffy, has shared her personal experience about the challenges of dating as a divorcee and single mother.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Kaffy, who divorced her ex-husband Joseph Ameh, revealed that some men have openly told her they cannot date her because she already has children.

“I have had someone tell me he cannot think about dating me because I am a single mother with two kids,” she said. “But what makes you think a divorced woman who has worked on herself isn’t an even better candidate for a relationship?”

She questioned the societal bias against single mums, stressing that even people who marry “fresh” are not guaranteed lifelong marriages. “What is the guarantee that two single people today won’t become divorced tomorrow? Over 70% of marriages crash, so why the judgment?” she asked.

Kaffy also touched on how many people misunderstand love, linking the feeling of “butterflies in the tummy” to unresolved trauma.

“Real love brings peace, not butterflies,” she explained. “Love is not supposed to make you anxious. A lot of those butterflies are actually trauma responses.”

Her candid remarks have sparked conversations online about the stigma divorcees face in dating and how society views single mothers in relationships.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
