KADUNA UNIVERSITY WORKERS DEMAND FAIR IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW SALARY STRUCTURE
Workers at a university in Kaduna State have rejected what they described as selective implementation of a new salary structure, insisting that all eligible employees should benefit equally from approved adjustments. The workers called on the university management and relevant authorities to address the disparity and ensure that salary-related policies are applied fairly across the institution.
The employees argued that implementing the new structure for only some categories of workers could create discrimination and deepen dissatisfaction among staff. They maintained that workers performing comparable duties or covered by the same government-approved conditions of service should not be treated differently when it comes to remuneration and other employment benefits.
The development has generated concern among staff members who said unequal treatment could affect morale and productivity within the university. The workers urged the institution to engage with their unions and other representatives to resolve the disagreement rather than allowing the issue to escalate into a wider labour dispute.
They also called for transparency in the interpretation and application of the salary policy, saying workers should be given clear information about the criteria being used to determine who qualifies for the new pay arrangements. According to them, any differences in implementation should be based on clearly established rules and not administrative discretion.
The workers’ demand comes amid wider concerns across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions over salaries, allowances, working conditions and the implementation of government-approved remuneration policies. They urged the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that the university complies with applicable agreements, stressing that equal treatment of staff is necessary to maintain industrial harmony and effective academic operations.
