Kaduna Court Bars Man From Contacting Lover, Restricts Him From Passing Her Street
“I love her but I’m not ready for marriage yet,” says undergraduate
A Sharia Court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna State, has issued a ruling separating Mr. Salisu Salele and Miss Bilkisu Lawal, following objections to their relationship from both families.
Presiding Judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, delivered the verdict after both parties agreed to end the relationship in the presence of their guardians and a local community leader.
“Effective immediately, Salisu is not allowed to contact Bilkisu by phone or in person,” the judge declared.
“He is also prohibited from passing through her street or loitering near her residence.
Any breach of this order will attract appropriate consequences,” the judge warned.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bilkisu’s mother, Raliya Lawal, had filed the complaint, asking the court to either compel Salisu to marry her daughter or put an end to the relationship entirely.
“We live in the same neighbourhood, and he has been seeing my daughter without our consent,” she said.
“I approached his mother to address the situation, but she explained that her son was not ready for marriage.”
Rayila explained that Salisu had stopped visiting the house but continued reaching out to Bilkisu via phone and arranging private meetings.
“I brought him to court to protect my daughter’s values and the upbringing we’ve given her,” she added.
In response, Salisu admitted to being in love with Bilkisu but stated that he wasn’t prepared for marriage.
“I’m currently an undergraduate at a federal university and don’t want to be distracted by marital responsibilities,” he said.
“I also can’t afford the dowry right now and still live with my parents.”
