JUST IN: MARK, AMAECHI, OTHERS IN KANO AHEAD OF KWANKWASO’S DEFECTION
Top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have arrived in Kano State ahead of the anticipated defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The delegation, which arrived on Monday, includes ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
They were received at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo.
Kwankwaso is expected to defect to the ADC alongside key political figures, including Gwarzo, Senator Rufa’i Hanga, and the Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashim Dungurawa.
The move follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which he announced on Sunday, citing the need for political realignment amid the evolving national landscape.
Describing the decision as difficult, Kwankwaso noted his long-standing involvement with the party but said aligning with a new platform was necessary to better position himself for contributing to national development.
He also expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership and members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their support, assuring continued collaboration toward a more prosperous future for Nigeria.
