Liverpool FC have reached a sensational agreement to sign Germany international and attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £116 million.

The transfer package comprises a guaranteed £100 million, with an additional £16 million in performance-related add-ons. These bonuses will be activated based on Liverpool achieving sustained success at the highest level – a clause that, if fulfilled, would make the deal a British record in terms of total fee.

A Record-Breaking Transfer in Sight

The current record for the largest initial transfer fee in British football is Chelsea’s £107 million signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in 2023. Chelsea also signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton for an initial £100 million, with add-ons potentially raising the total to £115 million.

If Wirtz’s full transfer value is met, he would eclipse both deals, underlining Liverpool’s serious intent under manager Arne Slot to bolster their squad with top-tier young talent.

Wirtz: A Rising Star

The 21-year-old Wirtz has been pivotal to Leverkusen’s resurgence in the Bundesliga, showcasing creative flair, vision, and technical brilliance, earning comparisons with some of Germany’s finest midfielders. His signing is seen as a major coup for Liverpool as they continue their post-Klopp era rebuild.
