There was a wave of joy and relief in Niger State as the Nigeria Police Force successfully reunited 35 kidnap victims with their families after weeks in protective custody. The victims—comprising 16 women and 19 children—were rescued from different parts of the state, including Kagara, Tegina, and Agwara.
At a brief handover ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), Ibrahim Adamu, explained that the victims had received proper care and counseling while under police protection. "They were not just rescued and left to fend for themselves. We ensured they got food, proper bedding, emotional support, and deradicalization sessions to help them begin their journey to healing," he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, officially handed over the victims to Ayuba Usman Katako, Chairman of Rafi Local Government Area. Elleman praised the courage of the victims and appreciated the efforts of the police operatives involved in the rescue.
According to the CP, the rescue operations were carried out in phases. "The first group was found in Agwara while trying to cross the river to New-Bussa. Thanks to timely intelligence and swift action, five women and six children were saved. Later, another team intercepted a group on the Mekujeri-Tegina road, rescuing four women and seven children. One more batch was found being secretly transported by a driver," he narrated.
CP Elleman emphasized the need for public cooperation in the fight against kidnapping and insecurity. "We urge citizens to report any suspicious activity. Timely and credible information makes all the difference," he added.
This successful operation stands as a testament to the importance of community collaboration with security forces and highlights ongoing efforts to restore peace and safety across the state.
