Lagos-based distribution firm halts local representation of international spirits portfolio, citing shifting consumer trends and a strategic realignment toward high-growth segments

Josien Mercantile Limited has officially confirmed the termination of its appointment as the exclusive Nigerian distributor for the global Rémy Cointreau portfolio.

According to corporate disclosures, formal notice of the decision was communicated to the international beverage conglomerate following a comprehensive internal evaluation conducted by Josien's Board of Directors.

Management noted that the strategic portfolio review revealed a sustained softening of consumer demand within the cognac category, impacting both local market uptake and broader international segments.

In response to the shifting macroeconomic landscape, the company intends to redirect its capital allocation and operational investments toward high-demand spirits categories that offer stronger growth trajectories for trade partners and shareholders.

While expressing gratitude to the Rémy Cointreau team for the collaborative partnership, executives emphasized that agile supply chain management requires aligning distribution footprints closely with evolving consumer preferences.

Industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the development as premium beverage distributors navigate changing purchasing power dynamics and optimize their brand portfolios across the Nigerian market.
