Former Liverpool and Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe has been given a 12-month community order after admitting to assaulting his former girlfriend during an argument in south London.

The 30-year-old former England Under-21 international appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he was sentenced following his guilty plea to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The incident occurred outside Amie Mayson’s home in Lambeth in December.

The court heard that an argument developed between Ibe and Mayson after she confronted him over money she claimed he owed her. During the confrontation, Ibe grabbed her hair and pulled out one of her braids, leaving her with a bald patch on her head.

Ibe had initially denied the charge when he appeared in court in March but subsequently changed his plea to guilty. Representing himself during Friday’s hearing, the former Premier League player acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and expressed regret over what happened.

“I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful,” Ibe told the court, adding that he had reflected on his behaviour and accepted responsibility for his actions.

As part of the sentence, Ibe was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and undertake 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also ordered to pay £764, comprising a £114 surcharge and £650 towards court costs.

The incident has also had a significant emotional impact on Mayson. In a victim impact statement read to the court during the earlier proceedings, she said the injury affected her confidence, self-esteem and sense of self-worth, describing the experience as a continuing source of distress.

Ibe began his professional career with Wycombe Wanderers before joining Liverpool, where he made 41 first-team appearances. He later moved to Bournemouth, making 92 appearances for the club, before spells with Derby County and other teams.

The former winger subsequently returned to professional football in Bulgaria with Lokomotiv Sofia after spending time in non-league football. His career also included representing England at youth international level, reaching the Under-21 side.
