JOEL-ONOWAKPO THANKS TINUBU FOR NEW FEDERAL PROJECTS IN DELTA SOUTH

Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s support for major federal projects in the district.

The lawmaker conveyed his gratitude after joining Senate President Godswill Akpabio on a visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He said the meeting provided an opportunity to personally thank the President for signing legislation establishing the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, and the Federal Medical Centre, Oleh.

Joel-Onowakpo described the two institutions as significant interventions that could have a lasting impact on the people of Delta South and the wider Niger Delta region.

According to him, the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University as a full-fledged federal institution will strengthen maritime education and provide opportunities for research, innovation and human-capital development.

He noted that the university could also position Delta South as an important centre for maritime training and related economic activities, given the strategic location of the district within Nigeria’s coastal region.

The senator also highlighted the importance of the Federal Medical Centre, Oleh, saying the institution would expand access to specialised healthcare for residents of Delta South.

He explained that the medical centre would reduce the need for residents to travel outside the district to obtain tertiary healthcare services while also creating opportunities for medical training, employment and investment.

Joel-Onowakpo stressed that the two institutions should not be viewed merely as physical projects but as long-term investments capable of improving the socio-economic prospects of communities across the senatorial district.

He expressed particular appreciation to President Tinubu and Senator Akpabio for their support and cooperation in advancing initiatives that he said would deliver tangible benefits to his constituents.

The lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, said the development demonstrated the importance of constructive cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

He maintained that effective representation should translate into practical interventions capable of improving the lives of citizens.

Joel-Onowakpo further assured residents of Delta South that he would continue to pursue federal projects and policies aimed at attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, improving healthcare and expanding educational opportunities in the district.

He said he remained committed to using his position in the National Assembly to attract additional federal interventions to Delta South.

The senator also acknowledged the role of the Senate leadership in supporting the legislative process that led to the establishment of the two institutions.

The development is expected to strengthen the Federal Government’s presence in Delta South while providing new opportunities in education, healthcare and the maritime sector.

Joel-Onowakpo concluded by thanking President Tinubu and Senator Akpabio for their support, expressing confidence that the new federal institutions would contribute significantly to the development of the people and communities of Delta South.
