JIGAWA UNIVERSITY WAIVES TUITION FOR MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS STUDENTS

The Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, has approved a 100 per cent waiver of tuition and school fees for newly admitted students studying B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics. The initiative is aimed at making science education more accessible while addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in key STEM fields.

The university said the decision was part of its efforts to encourage more young Nigerians to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM). According to the institution, these disciplines remain crucial to national development, despite the country continuing to experience gaps in skilled manpower.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the university's Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, who explained that the waiver would cover tuition and other school fees throughout the beneficiaries' period of study. She described the initiative as a form of community service designed to make science education more affordable, particularly for students from underserved communities.

The university also stated that candidates who initially selected other courses or institutions could still take advantage of the opportunity, provided they meet the admission requirements. Such candidates were advised to change their institution and course to the Federal University of Technology, Babura through any JAMB-approved CBT centre.

The institution believes the initiative will also help increase enrolment in Mathematics and Physics, courses that often attract fewer students despite their importance to technological advancement, research and innovation. The university urged eligible candidates to take advantage of the opportunity during the current admission cycle.

The management further advised prospective beneficiaries to contact the university's admissions office for detailed information about eligibility, the change-of-course process and other admission requirements. The tuition waiver takes effect from the 2026 admission cycle, offering successful students the opportunity to study the two science programmes without paying tuition and school fees.
