JIGAWA POLICE IMPOUND 27 VEHICLES, PROSECUTE DRIVERS

The Jigawa State Police Command has impounded 27 vehicles and prosecuted their drivers for various traffic offences as part of an ongoing enforcement operation across the state.

The exercise, known as Operation Velvet, is aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations and reducing practices that could put the lives of road users at risk.

The command said the affected vehicles were intercepted for offences including overloading, driving without valid licences and the use of unauthorised tinted permits.

The drivers were subsequently prosecuted before the appropriate courts, while the vehicles were impounded in line with the enforcement process.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the operation was being intensified under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala.

He explained that the enforcement was not targeted at any particular group but was intended to promote discipline among motorists and improve safety on the state’s roads.

The command urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, ensure their licences and vehicle documents are valid and avoid overloading.

Police authorities said Operation Velvet would continue across major roads and strategic locations in Jigawa State.

The command also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with officers carrying out the exercise, stressing that adherence to traffic laws remains essential to reducing accidents and protecting lives.
