JIGAWA PDP URGES GOVT TO REMOVE GHOST WORKERS, FUND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has called on Governor Umar Namadi’s administration to urgently review the state’s payroll system and eliminate ghost workers, stressing that the move would free up much-needed funds for key development projects.

The call was made by the PDP state chairman, Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, in a statement posted on his Facebook page while reacting to a recent BudgIT report that ranked Jigawa lowest in budget performance among Nigeria’s 36 states.

According to Babandi, the report revealed that Jigawa recorded one of the poorest capital budget implementation rates, with critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure receiving far less funding than allocated.

He described the findings as disappointing but also as a wake-up call for urgent reforms.

“We, the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), express our deep concern over the BudgIT report. Our dear state cannot continue on this path,” Babandi stated.

The opposition party urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government to focus more on capital projects that directly impact the people’s lives, while also restoring fiscal discipline and rebuilding public trust.

“We call on the Governor to act swiftly and decisively to reposition our state for inclusive growth,” the PDP chairman added.

The statement has sparked discussions among residents, many of whom believe tackling ghost workers could save billions for investment in schools, hospitals, and road projects across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
