JIGAWA GOV MOURNS EMIR OF GUMEL

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has mourned the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, describing the monarch’s passing as a major loss to the emirate, the state and Nigeria.

Namadi, through the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, expressed his condolences following the death of the 16th Emir of Gumel in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday. The monarch was 82 and reportedly died after a brief illness while receiving medical treatment.

The governor described the late emir as a respected traditional ruler and a pillar of unity who devoted more than four decades to serving his people.

During his 45-year reign, Sani II was known for promoting peace, education and development across Gumel Emirate. He was also associated with several development projects, including the College of Education, Gumel, and the Maigatari Free Trade Zone.

The late monarch, who ascended the throne in December 1980, also had a background in public service and previously served as a commissioner in the old Kano State Government.

Namadi extended his condolences to the emir’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council and the people of Jigawa State, praying for the repose of the monarch’s soul.

The state government said burial arrangements and details of the Janazah prayer would be announced in due course.
