JIGAWA COALITION URGES PEACEFUL CONDUCT AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS
A civil society coalition in Jigawa State has urged political parties, leaders, candidates and their supporters to prioritise peace and responsible conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution made the call in Dutse while commemorating the 2026 International Day of Democracy.
The coalition’s chairman, Musbahu Basirka, said political ambitions should not be allowed to create divisions or undermine the future of communities.
He urged political actors to avoid hate speech, insults, intimidation and violence, while encouraging campaigns focused on issues, policies and the welfare of citizens.
Basirka also appealed to religious leaders and the Ulama community to use their influence to promote tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence.
He said democracy should serve as a means of bringing people together rather than creating divisions among citizens.
The coalition’s call comes amid preparations for the 2027 elections, with political activities and early campaigns already taking place across the country.
