The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the 2026 Direct Entry registration exercise to May 22, 2026, in a move aimed at giving candidates additional time to complete their applications.

According to reports, the extension is designed to ease pressure on applicants who are still processing essential academic documents required for admission into tertiary institutions.

According to the examination body, many candidates have experienced delays in obtaining transcripts and other supporting credentials, prompting the decision to allow more time for completion of the registration process.

Relief for Applicants Amid Registration Challenges

The new deadline is expected to accommodate affected candidates and ensure they are not excluded from the 2026 admission cycle due to documentation bottlenecks.

JAMB had previously shifted the registration closing date to May 8 and expanded the number of accredited registration centres nationwide to reduce congestion and improve access for applicants.

Advisory to Candidates

The board has advised prospective candidates to complete their registration early and avoid last-minute rushes, warning that delays could expose them to challenges such as network disruptions, overcrowded centres, and incomplete submissions.

Admission Policy Meeting Ahead

Meanwhile, JAMB is expected to continue preparations for the 2026 admission process ahead of its policy meeting scheduled for May 11, 2026.

The meeting will bring together stakeholders in the education sector to review admission guidelines and set standards for tertiary institutions across the country.

The extension reflects ongoing efforts by JAMB to streamline the admission process and ensure broader access for eligible candidates.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
