JAMB EXPLAINS WHAT CANDIDATES SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR ADMISSION STATUS
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has explained the meaning of the different admission status messages displayed to candidates on its Central Admission Processing System. The clarification is aimed at helping candidates understand updates such as “Not Admitted” and “Admission in Progress” as the 2026/2027 admission exercise continues.
JAMB explained that a “Not Admitted” status does not necessarily mean that a candidate has permanently lost the opportunity to gain admission. The status may indicate that the candidate has not yet been offered admission at the time the information is checked, as institutions continue to process applications and submit admission lists through the appropriate channels.
The board also clarified that “Admission in Progress” means the candidate’s admission is currently being processed. According to JAMB, the status may appear while the institution is finalising its admission procedures or while the necessary approval and processing are being completed before an offer becomes available to the candidate.
Candidates have therefore been advised to continue checking their admission status regularly through the official JAMB platform rather than concluding that the process has ended based on an interim update. The board has also continued to urge candidates to ensure that their personal and academic information submitted during the admission process is accurate.
The clarification comes as universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions continue their 2026/2027 admission processes. Candidates are expected to monitor their CAPS accounts for changes and accept an admission offer when one is formally presented, while those who have not yet received offers are advised to remain attentive to further updates from their institutions and JAMB.
