‘I’VE NEVER PRAYED IN MY LIFE BEFORE’ – SEUN KUTI SPEAKS OUT
Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has opened up about his stance on prayer, revealing that he has never engaged in it and does not believe in its efficacy.
In a recent video shared on his Instagram account, Kuti described prayer as unnecessary, saying that an individual’s choices and actions, rather than prayers, define their life.
“I’ve never prayed in my life. I don’t know how to pray, and I don’t believe it works. Your life is your prayer. Praying publicly or aloud is just showmanship—it’s childish,” he said.
Kuti explained that one’s actions, rather than spoken words, constitute true prayer. “What you do with your life is your prayer. That is the only prayer. Your actions are your prayer,” he added.
Addressing conventional ideas of God, he argued that prayers often go unanswered because they may not align with divine will. “The way most people conceive of God is why prayer has become ineffective. If your prayer doesn’t align with God’s will, it won’t be answered. Clerics won’t tell you this because they seek to exploit you,” Kuti asserted.
He concluded by emphasizing self-reliance over prayer: “I solve my problems myself. I don’t pray over my problems. If prayer truly solved problems, prisons and hospitals would be empty.”
