I’VE NEVER ENDORSED ANY POLITICIAN, FALZ CLEARS UP 2023 ELECTION RUMOURS

Rapper and social commentator, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has dismissed claims that he publicly backed Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 general election.

Falz insisted that he has never endorsed any politician or political party.

He made the clarification during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television on Tuesday.

According to Falz, while he consistently encourages Nigerians to participate in elections, he has deliberately avoided publicly supporting any political figure because of his reservations about the country’s political class.

He explained, “Just a point of correction: I’ve never, in 2023 or at any point, openly supported any politician or political party.

“I’ve only actively encouraged people to go out to vote and let their intentions be known. What I clamour for is a free and fair democratic process.”

Explaining why he has maintained that position, the rapper said Nigeria’s political landscape has remained largely unchanged over the years, with the same set of individuals repeatedly occupying the political space.

He stated, “We’ve been going in cycles, and it just seems like almost the same crop of people we keep on reshuffling.

“And at the end of the day, it’s tough to even sit anywhere and vouch for a Nigerian politician in 2026.”

Despite his reservations, Falz said he is not ruling out the possibility of publicly supporting a candidate in the future if someone earns his complete confidence.

He said, “If I see someone that I feel 100% is the one, maybe I would. But as it stands, I’m just trying to be cautious.”

The rapper also appealed to Nigerians, especially young people, to participate actively in the 2027 general elections, arguing that a large voter turnout would make it more difficult to manipulate election outcomes.

“A lot more people need to come out. And like I said earlier on, if there is an overwhelming majority, it would be incredibly difficult for them to cheat that,” he said.

Falz has consistently been one of Nigeria’s most vocal entertainers on issues of governance, accountability and civic responsibility, often using his music and public platforms to advocate democratic participation and demand better leadership.
