Dangote Cement’s Itori plant in Ogun State is expected to become a major hub for the company’s export operations to neighbouring African markets and its sister companies across the continent.

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, disclosed this during the company’s Capital Market Day presentation in London.

Pathak said the first phase of the Itori plant would have a capacity of six million tonnes, with production currently at about three million tonnes and expected to rise to approximately five million tonnes next year.

He said the facility would produce mainly clinker for export to markets including Cameroon, Senegal, Benin and Togo. The company also plans to supply clinker to its sister companies as they expand their grinding operations across Africa.

Clinker from Itori will be transported by road to Apapa for export, using Dangote Cement’s existing infrastructure at the port. The company said only limited additional investment would be required for the logistics arrangement.

Pathak said demand from neighbouring countries and Dangote Cement’s African operations was expected to absorb the first phase’s output.

The company plans to expand the facility further, with additional clinker production and cement capacity to support its broader export strategy.

The Itori project forms part of Dangote Cement’s plan to increase group capacity to 80 million tonnes, with the company focusing on brownfield expansions that can reduce capital requirements and shorten project timelines.
