ITEL MOVES AGAINST FALSE CLAIMS OVER POWER TANK IMAGE

Technology company itel has threatened legal action over the circulation of an AI-generated image falsely presented as showing one of its Power Tank portable power stations exploding.

The company issued the warning after the image and accompanying claims circulated on social media.

itel said the image was fabricated and did not represent an actual explosion involving its Power Tank product.

The image was initially shared by an X user, who claimed that the portable power station had exploded allegedly because of overcharging. The post later attracted attention before the user deleted it and apologised.

The user subsequently acknowledged that both the image and the scenario were generated using artificial intelligence.

itel said it would take appropriate legal steps against deliberate attempts to misrepresent its products or spread fabricated information that could damage its reputation.

The company urged social media users to be cautious about unverified content, particularly material created or manipulated using artificial intelligence.

itel also reiterated that its Power Tank products are designed with safety features, including systems for temperature, voltage, overload and short-circuit protection.

No verified incident has been established connecting the product to the explosion depicted in the viral image.
