“IT WASN’T MY DESTINY”: COMEDIAN DESTALKER SHARES HOW HE LEFT INTERNET FRAUD FOR COMEDY
Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about his past, revealing that he once tried his hand at internet fraud before venturing into comedy.
Speaking on the In-house Gist podcast, Destalker disclosed that a close friend who introduced him to the fraudulent activity has now become a Christian cleric.
He recounted that his inability to succeed in the act was due to his kind nature and inability to deceive others.
“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh. We used to book night sessions at cyber cafés for ₦250, and he often paid because I couldn’t afford it. But while he was online looking for victims, I would spend time chatting with my family and old schoolmates from Ughelli on Facebook before falling asleep,” he said.
Destalker explained that his failure in internet fraud was a sign that it was never his path in life.
“It wasn’t my destiny. I can’t defraud people because I’m too kindhearted. What I went through made me stronger and more determined to achieve my goals,” he added.
The comedian also reflected on his rise in the entertainment industry, recalling how some colleagues once tried to block his opportunities.
“Some comedians told me I wouldn’t perform at certain shows, but I told them I would still make it. And I did. Today, some of those shows no longer exist, and some of those comedians are no longer relevant,” he said confidently.
