Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in northeastern Nigeria, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to reports, the insurgents also abducted a serving Brigade Commander alongside other military personnel during the attack.

The armed group was said to have executed a well-coordinated strike on the convoy, leaving multiple casualties and heightening tension across the area.

If verified, this incident would be the first time an extremist group in Nigeria successfully captures a serving General directly from the frontline.

The Nigerian Army has not yet issued an official statement or confirmed the condition of the abducted officer as of the time of this report.

This comes days after Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, raised fresh concerns over the resurgence of terrorist activities in his constituency. He recently disclosed that four farmers were brutally killed by Boko Haram insurgents while working on their farmlands in Kwam village, near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
