IS JUMPING GOVERNANCE?’ APM CHIEFTAIN SLAMS MAKINDE OVER STAGE JUMP

A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his decision to jump from a stage during a political gathering, questioning its relevance to governance.

The criticism followed Makinde’s appearance at the party’s South-West presidential campaign town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State.

During the event, Makinde emphasised the energy and stamina required for national leadership. He then jumped down from the platform and challenged rival presidential candidates to demonstrate similar physical ability.

The governor said his campaign would focus on the capacity to handle demanding responsibilities rather than make age the central issue.

However, the reaction captured in the question, “Is jumping governance?”, challenges the idea that such a physical display demonstrates readiness to lead.

The episode brings attention to a broader campaign question: how should voters assess a candidate’s ability to govern?

Physical stamina can form part of that discussion, but voters also have policies, experience, judgement and records in public office to consider.
