IRAN STRIKES US OIL TANKER IN GULF – REPORT
Iran has reportedly struck a US oil tanker in the Persian Gulf with a missile, according to Iranian state television, marking the latest escalation in tensions affecting the region’s energy sector.
The report, quoting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the vessel was hit in the northern part of the Persian Gulf and was on fire. The claim has not been independently verified.
The Guards also stated that they had “full control” of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint linking the Gulf to the Indian Ocean and a key transit route for global oil and gas supplies.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of committing an atrocity by allegedly sinking an Iranian navy ship off Sri Lanka, warning that Washington would “bitterly regret” what he described as a dangerous precedent.
“The US has perpetrated an atrocity at sea… Frigate Dena, a guest of India’s Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning,” Araghchi wrote on X.
The incident adds to mounting tensions in the Gulf, a region vital to global energy markets, as hostilities between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.
