Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said there is no military solution to the country’s conflict with the United States, calling for negotiations to resolve the dispute.

Araghchi made the statement as talks between Washington and Tehran remained stalled amid disagreements over the conflict and the status of the Strait of Hormuz.

He said Iran would respond if its opponents resumed military action but maintained that negotiations based on what he described as fairness were the only route to ending the conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of disagreement, with Iran seeking conditions for reopening the strategic waterway.

Iranian officials said the country had presented several conditions, including a ceasefire, the unfreezing of assets and changes to sanctions affecting its oil sector.

US officials have considered the Iranian proposals, while Tehran said it was reviewing Washington’s response.

The dispute has continued to affect regional security and energy markets, with the Strait of Hormuz being a major route for global oil and gas shipments.

Iran’s position comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to find a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
