The Sehin Royal Family of Ipare in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State has asked the state government and prospective investors to involve it directly in discussions concerning land earmarked for the proposed Olokola Free Trade Zone.

The family said it was not represented at a recent meeting involving the Aheri Kingdom, the Ondo State Government and investors, and rejected claims that Ipare and Alape lands form part of the ancestral territory of Aheri.

According to the family, the land in question remains its ancestral property, with ownership claims supported by historical records, court judgments, survey documents and longstanding use of the land.

The family said it had no objection to the development of the Olokola Free Trade Zone or genuine investment projects in the area. However, it expressed concern that government officials and investors were allegedly engaging other parties without consulting the family.

It warned that bypassing the recognised custodians of the land could lead to disputes and possible litigation.

The family therefore urged the government and investors to include its accredited representatives in technical committees and stakeholder engagements involving land access, enumeration, acquisition and compensation.

It also said it remained open to dialogue with the government, investors and neighbouring communities to support development while protecting the interests of those who claim ownership of the land.
