The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a middle-aged man, identified only as Segun, who reportedly died after allegedly attacking his daughter in Ise Ekiti, within the Ise/Orun Local Government Area of the state.

Community sources disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

The man was said to have attempted to injure his 12-year-old daughter before later being found dead behind their residence.

A resident of the area, Mr Patrick Abayomi, said neighbours were drawn to the house after hearing distress calls and unusual sounds. According to him, residents who rushed to the scene discovered the man’s body behind the house.

The injured girl was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she is said to be responding positively to treatment.

Residents described the incident as shocking, noting that the reason behind the man’s actions remains unclear.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, said a full investigation had commenced.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered a thorough probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that further details would be made public upon the conclusion of investigations.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
