Inter Milan have officially explained why their pursuit of Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman came to an unexpected end.

The Serie A giants were strongly linked with the Atalanta forward after agreeing on personal terms on a five-year deal. Inter even tabled a €45 million bid, but Atalanta refused to let go of their star man.

Speaking on the matter, Inter’s sporting director Giuseppe Marotta admitted that while the club admired Lookman, the move was not feasible under the current conditions.

“There was talk of Lookman, but we found a closed door,” Marotta said. “Atalanta have every right to keep such an important player, and we respect their decision.”

The collapse of the deal leaves Lookman in a tricky situation. The Nigerian forward had reportedly submitted a transfer request and was sidelined by Atalanta during the saga, creating uncertainty about his immediate future with the club.

Inter, meanwhile, has turned its attention to alternative attacking options as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Lookman, who was instrumental for Atalanta last season with key goals and assists, remains a hot target in the transfer market, but his future now depends on whether Atalanta soften their stance or another club is willing to meet their valuation.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Lookman stays in Bergamo or if another twist emerges before the transfer window closes.
