INSIDE TINUBU’S CLOSED-DOOR MEETING WITH NIGERIA’S SERVICE CHIEFS
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has reassured Nigerians that terrorists and bandits are recording greater casualties as military operations intensify across the country.
Speaking after a security briefing with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Musa said the armed forces met with the President to provide updates on the security situation and address what he described as inaccurate interpretations in some media reports.
According to him, recent attacks have been met with decisive responses from security forces on the ground.
“We came to brief Mr. President on the current situation. There have been several attacks, but our security forces have responded effectively,” Musa said. “In some cases, the way these incidents are reported, especially in the media, does not accurately reflect the reality. We felt it was important to clarify the situation.”
He stressed that contrary to some narratives, terrorist groups and bandits are suffering significant losses, with many of their leaders being eliminated during ongoing operations.
“Contrary to what may be reported, terrorists and bandits are taking more casualties. Their commanders are being neutralised almost daily, and we remain confident that victory is within reach,” he added.
The Defence Minister, however, acknowledged that the military has also suffered losses, describing the fallen personnel as courageous officers and soldiers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
“We have lost a number of very brave officers and men, which is deeply regrettable. Nevertheless, we want Nigerians to know that we remain fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of the country,” he said.
Musa also disclosed that President Tinubu has pledged additional military equipment to strengthen the operational capacity of the armed forces.
“The President has assured us of more equipment to enhance our operations and better protect the nation. With that support, we are confident of achieving victory,” he said.
He further urged Nigerians to remain patient and resilient, noting that some reports may not always capture the full picture of developments on the battlefield.
“Our appeal to Nigerians is to remain steadfast and not lose hope. Sometimes the reports you hear may not reflect the entire reality. In truth, the terrorists and bandits are the ones suffering greater losses,” Musa stated.
