The House of Representatives has raised concerns over Nigeria’s rising insecurity and the management of defence spending, summoning key security and government officials for questioning.

Lawmakers resolved to invite the National Security Adviser (NSA) and relevant ministers to explain how security funds are being utilised amid ongoing attacks and instability in several parts of the country.

The decision followed growing public pressure and increasing incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes that have continued to affect communities nationwide.

Members of the House questioned whether increased budgetary allocations to the security sector were translating into measurable improvements in safety and operational effectiveness.

According to lawmakers, the summons is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and better coordination in the fight against insecurity.

They stressed that Nigerians deserve clarity on how defence resources are being deployed, especially given the scale of security challenges facing the country.

The House also called for a comprehensive review of current security strategies, urging agencies to improve intelligence gathering and response capabilities.

Security experts say the move reflects mounting concern within the legislature over the effectiveness of Nigeria’s current security architecture.

The NSA and ministers are expected to appear before the House in the coming days to provide detailed briefings on defence spending and national security operations.
