INSECURITY FORCES SUSPENSION OF PLATEAU FESTIVAL
The Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Buba Gyang, has announced the suspension of the 2026 Nzem Berom Festival due to rising insecurity in Plateau State.
The festival, which was scheduled to be held on April 24, was put on hold following consultations with the Jos Joint Traditional Council, Berom leaders, and other stakeholders.
According to the monarch, the decision was driven by recent attacks and loss of lives across communities in the state, making it unsafe to proceed with the celebration.
He described the move as difficult but necessary, noting that the Berom nation is currently mourning victims of the violence.
The traditional ruler assured that the suspension is temporary and that a new date will be announced once the security situation improves.
He also urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies, while reaffirming collaboration with authorities to restore peace in the state.
