INNER WHEEL CLUB SEEKS MORE LEADERSHIP ROLES FOR WOMEN

The Inner Wheel Club District 912, Nigeria, has called on governments at all levels to create more opportunities for women to take up leadership and governance roles.

The call was made in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the investiture of Mrs Mulikat Musa-Atinuke as the 20th District Chairman of the Inner Wheel Club of Olumo. The event was held under the theme, “Grow and Flourish.”

Musa-Atinuke said women had continued to prove their ability to perform when given opportunities to serve. She, however, stressed that economic empowerment was essential to increasing women’s participation in leadership.

She urged governments to strengthen programmes that support women, particularly petty traders and other vulnerable groups, saying financial independence would help women contribute more effectively to their families and communities.

The new chairman also outlined some of the club’s planned humanitarian activities, including support for indigent students, widows and vulnerable people.

The club plans to assist students with examination fees, provide furniture to schools and donate hospital bed sheets as part of its community service programmes.

It will also organise health awareness campaigns and target about 1,000 people through its “Orange the World” campaign against violence affecting women and children.

International Inner Wheel Board Director, Karin Uwaje, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable people through education, healthcare and humanitarian programmes.
