The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that 2,316,232 Nigerians have newly registered to vote nationwide, with Osun State leading the pack. The figures, released on Sunday, highlight the state of voter engagement across Nigeria during the Week 12 phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The CVR, which began on August 18, 2025, is scheduled to run until August 2026. INEC noted that registration is temporarily suspended in Anambra State until after its governorship election on November 8, 2025, in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Top States by New Registrations

Osun: 185,089

Imo: 143,386

Kano: 132,290

Sokoto: 123,320

Lagos: 109,693

Federal Capital Territory (FCT): 106,855

Borno: 106,376

Other states showing significant participation include Kogi (91,573), Jigawa (88,209), Zamfara (84,268), Katsina (80,425), Kaduna (78,282), and Delta (72,311). States with lower registration figures included Taraba (17,803), Enugu (16,304), Ondo (16,012), Cross River (14,559), and Abia (12,297).

Trends and Insights

INEC noted that South-West states continue to record high registration numbers, particularly Osun and Lagos. Meanwhile, northern states are showing increased voter participation, thanks to intensified mobilisation efforts by local authorities, religious leaders, and community organisations.

The continuous voter registration exercise provides Nigerians with an opportunity to actively participate in upcoming elections, ensuring that citizens’ voices are counted in shaping the country’s democratic future.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
