The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised concern about the large number of unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Kano State, which currently exceeds 360,000.

This concern was made known by the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, during a meeting on Saturday with a state government committee tasked with increasing public awareness on the ongoing voter registration.

The committee, headed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, is expected to lead public sensitization efforts to encourage residents to collect their PVCs and participate in the electoral process.

Ambassador Zango urged the committee to strengthen its awareness campaign, stressing that all uncollected PVCs remain in INEC’s custody. He commended the state government for forming the committee and expressed confidence that its composition and leadership under Waiya would contribute significantly to the success of the exercise.

He also pledged INEC’s full support in efforts to mobilize eligible citizens for registration and collection of their PVCs.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Comrade Waiya explained that the initiative was launched by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to involve all sectors of the state, including opposition parties, in promoting active voter engagement.

Waiya further called on INEC to consider increasing the number of polling units across Kano to reduce overcrowding during future elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
