INEC PROPOSES N873.78BN BUDGET AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTION — AMUPITAN
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has proposed a budget of ₦873.78 billion for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, presented the proposal on Thursday before a joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Electoral Matters.
Over ₦200 billion of the proposed budget is earmarked for election technology. According to Amupitan, the total budget is divided into five main components:
Election operations: ₦375.75 billion
Election administrative costs: ₦92.31 billion
Election technology: ₦209.21 billion
Election capital costs: ₦154.90 billion
Miscellaneous expenses: ₦41.61 billion
Amupitan highlighted that the proposed allocation reflects INEC’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, efficient, and technologically advanced electoral process.
