INEC PROMISES FREE AND FAIR BYE-ELECTIONS IN KADUNA THIS AUGUST
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Kaduna State that the upcoming bye-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025, will be free, fair, and credible.
Speaking during a one-day stakeholder engagement meeting in Kaduna on Friday, the state’s newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Saidu Babura-Ahmad, said INEC is fully prepared to deliver a transparent and peaceful electoral process in the affected areas.
The bye-elections will take place in:
Chikun and Kajuru Federal Constituency
Zaria Kewaye State Constituency
Zaria Sabon Gari State Constituency
“I’m here for a serious national duty, and I assure all stakeholders that I will be fair to everyone in this state,” Prof. Babura-Ahmad told attendees.
According to the REC, the elections will be held across 33 Registration Areas and 1,169 Polling Units. To ensure smooth operations, INEC will deploy:
4,829 ad hoc staff, and
947 vehicles to transport materials and personnel.
He also noted that INEC is working round the clock to make sure that voters in security-challenged or hard-to-reach areas are not left out.
“We are making special arrangements to ensure every eligible voter, no matter where they live, can participate in this election. We’ll use any available means to reach every polling unit, even in difficult terrain,” he added.
Professor Babura-Ahmad’s message was clear: INEC is focused on inclusivity, transparency, and security for all voters across Kaduna State.
As the countdown to August 16 begins, stakeholders and voters alike are watching with hope that this election will raise the bar for electoral integrity in Nigeria.
