INEC OPENS ONLINE ACCREDITATION FOR MEDIA AHEAD OF JUNE 2026 BYE-ELECTIONS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially opened online accreditation for media organisations ahead of the upcoming bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
In a notice released on Friday via its official X handle, the commission urged media houses interested in covering the elections to complete their registration through its designated accreditation portal, stressing that late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
The electoral body described the accreditation exercise as a key requirement for ensuring proper coordination, transparency, and effective media coverage during the polls.
Elections Across Multiple Constituencies
The bye-elections will be conducted across several politically significant constituencies nationwide.
These include the Dawaki Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State and the Zuru State Constituency in Kebbi State.
Others are the Ondo South Senatorial District, Rivers South East Senatorial District, Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and Enugu North Senatorial District.
Tight Deadline for Media Accreditation
INEC emphasised that only accredited media organisations will be granted access to cover the elections, adding that registration must be completed strictly through its official online portal.
The commission also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on missed deadlines, warning that any organisation that fails to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe will be automatically disqualified from covering the electoral activities.
According to the commission, the measure is aimed at ensuring orderly media participation and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process as the country prepares for another round of politically sensitive contests.
The upcoming bye-elections are expected to attract wide national attention, with political stakeholders already gearing up for competitive contests across the affected regions.
