Independent National Electoral Commission rolls out preliminary electoral rolls and begins structured card issuance across registration areas in preparation for the 2027 general elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the nationwide display of the preliminary voter register alongside the rollout of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for eligible citizens.

The exercise, which runs through October 15, is designed to accommodate citizens who newly registered, applied for voting location transfers, or requested replacements for damaged credentials during preceding continuous registration phases.

According to electoral authorities, the updated national register has now surpassed one hundred million entries following rigorous Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) data cleanups.

During this designated window, registered citizens are expected to visit their designated registration areas and designated collection centers to inspect their particulars, confirm polling unit assignments, and lodge any necessary claims or objections.

Electoral officials have reiterated that card collection must be completed in person, emphasizing that proxy collection remains strictly prohibited under the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The commission has also deployed enhanced technological infrastructure and upgraded security protocols to ensure seamless verification and protect the integrity of the distribution process as the countdown to the 2027 polls continues.
