INEC DISMISSES ADC’S CONCERNS, SAYS OSUN VOTER REGISTRATION FIGURES ARE NORMAL

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that recent voter registration figures in Osun State were suspicious or inflated.

Earlier this week, INEC announced that over 1.3 million Nigerians had completed their online voter pre-registration in just one week. Out of this figure, Osun State alone accounted for 393,269 registrations, sparking concerns from the ADC.

The party argued that the numbers were “statistically implausible,” saying they did not align with past trends or demographic realities in the state.

But INEC, in a response through the Chief Press Secretary to its Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, dismissed the concerns, insisting that there was “nothing extraordinary” about Osun’s figures.

According to the Commission, the registration surge was similar to what happened in June 2021, when the online pre-registration platform was first launched.

INEC maintained that the figures were valid and within expected patterns, urging stakeholders to focus on mobilizing eligible voters instead of raising unnecessary doubts.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
