INEC DENIES MANIPULATING VOTER REGISTRATION FIGURES IN LAGOS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has refuted claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that figures from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) are being manipulated.
Responding on Monday, INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Lagos, Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin, described the allegation as unfounded and misleading.
He explained that Lagos State’s registration numbers are consistent with previous trends, reflecting its large, youthful, and tech-savvy population.
“In the last CVR (2021–2022), Lagos recorded the highest number of new registrations nationwide,” Gbadegesin said. “The state’s voter roll grew from 6.57 million to 7.06 million during that period. The current figures follow the same pattern.”
He added that the commission’s effective deployment of technology and sustained public awareness campaigns are behind the high numbers.
Gbadegesin emphasized that INEC remains committed to transparency and fairness in delivering its constitutional duties.
