Electoral umpire confirms physical publication across registration wards nationwide while technical teams work to resolve online portal availability

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that the preliminary voters' register for the upcoming general elections has been physically published at the ward level nationwide, though its upload to the commission’s official website remains pending.

The clarification comes amid public criticism from political leaders and civil society groups regarding the temporary unavailability of the electronic register. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had raised concerns over accessibility, urging the commission to ensure immediate online display so registered voters could inspect their details, identify omissions, and raise necessary objections.

Responding to the concerns, INEC officials explained that the physical display was prioritized across all registration areas and local government headquarters to comply with statutory requirements allowing public scrutiny at the grassroots level. The commission assured stakeholders that technical teams are finalizing administrative processes to ensure the full online version of the 103 million-voter register becomes accessible on the INEC portal shortly.

INEC reiterated its commitment to electoral transparency, encouraging citizens to visit their local ward centers to verify their voter status and submit any claims or objections as guided by established electoral guidelines.
