IMPORTED PETROL NOW COSTS MORE THAN DANGOTE REFINERY FUEL, REPORT SAYS

Imported petrol has become more expensive than fuel supplied by the Dangote Refinery, according to a new industry report, highlighting a shift in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market.

The report indicated that the landing cost of imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) now exceeds the ex-depot price offered by the Dangote Refinery, making locally refined fuel more competitive.

Industry analysts said the development reflects changing global oil market conditions, exchange rate pressures, shipping costs, and other import-related expenses that have increased the cost of bringing petrol into Nigeria.

Experts noted that the growing price advantage of locally refined products could reduce dependence on fuel imports, lower foreign exchange demand, and strengthen domestic refining capacity.

They added that sustained local refining could improve energy security, support the growth of Nigeria’s downstream sector, and enhance the stability of fuel supply, provided production remains consistent and distribution challenges are addressed.

The report comes as Nigeria continues efforts to expand domestic refining, reduce import reliance, and build a more resilient petroleum supply chain.
