IMO POLICE DETAIN THREE OFFICERS OVER ALLEGED CULTISM, HOSTEL RAID
Three personnel of the Imo State Police Command have been taken into custody following a directive by the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, to investigate a viral video showing police officers storming students’ hostels at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, and injuring several students.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the detained officers have been identified as Inspector Obinna Peter, Corporal Amaechi Augustine, and Corporal Ejikeme Victor. He confirmed that they were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the violent raid.
“The officers are currently in detention, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine their connection to cult-related activities and other offences. An Orderly Room Trial has been scheduled to begin on Monday,” Okoye stated.
The Command condemned the officers’ behaviour captured in the viral video, describing it as grossly unprofessional and inconsistent with the ethics, discipline, and values of the Nigeria Police Force. It further assured that the findings of the Orderly Room Trial will be made public once concluded.
