I’M NOT ACTIVELY SEEKING MARRIAGE – ACTRESS YVONNE JEGEDE
Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her views on marriage, describing it as “overrated” and clarifying that while she is open to remarrying, it is not something she is actively pursuing.
The 42-year-old actress made this known during a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, where she explained that her perspective on marriage has evolved over time.
“I am open to remarriage if it happens, but I am not looking for it. I’ve learned not to say ‘never,’” she said.
According to Jegede, many long-term relationships tend to deteriorate shortly after marriage, which raises questions about the value placed on the institution itself.
“I think marriage is overrated. Some people date for 10 to 15 years, get married, and then separate within two or three years. Sometimes you wonder why they didn’t just remain unmarried. Once the marriage label is added, intolerance often sets in,” she explained.
She further suggested that companionship and love matter more than marital status, adding, “I believe it’s better to find someone you love and simply cohabit with them.”
Yvonne Jegede was previously married to fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, a union that ended in 2019 after less than a year. She has cited financial imbalance and a lack of respect from her former spouse as key reasons for the separation.
In an earlier interview, the actress also revealed that she was the primary provider in the marriage and admitted regretting her decision to prioritize love over financial stability.
